Hawkeye Bean took in the Iowa/Tennessee Tech game this weekend and took some photos of the tailgating scene. As previously discussed, Iowa tailgating usually involves cold weather. So what happens when there is a home game in the early September heat? Apparently dudes wear ridiculous outfits. And also, Hawkeye Bean himself had the following experiences

  • Showed up to a tailgate without any sort of adult beverage, relying on the kindness of others
  • Only brought one Hawkeye Koozie, which was later renamed Mrs. Hawkeye Bean’s Koozie.
  • Failed to follow the wife’s advise to leave the cell phone in the car.
  • Discovered our rain ponchos were just windbreakers
  • Discovered our windbreakers don’t break wind in the rain
  • Discovered Hawkeye Fans do still break wind in the rain
  • Left a Hawkeye game before the 4th quarter for only the 2nd time ever (shame)

Check out their site for more photos, Iowa tailgating gear, and more.

Hayden Fry Cornhole Board

by nixforsix on August 16, 2010

in tailgating games

This is the coolest customized cornhole board I’ve seen. Norm’s Tailgating appears to be the creator and exclusive seller of these iconic tributes to former Hawkeye’s coach Hayden Fry. In addition to selling these boards, Norm’s also sales tailgating spots in the front yard of his house near Kinnick Stadium. I’m assuming that the closing of the Magic Bus will mean plenty of business for Norm. The big shocker here is that Alabama fans haven’t started putting Bear Bryant pictures on cornhole boards yet. It should be an ordering option on all Daniel Moore prints. There’s also no word yet on if anyone will create a cornhole board for the legendary Coach Hayden Fox

Vintage Style Logo Shirts

by nixforsix on August 11, 2010

in tailgating attire

TailgateClothing.com has an interesting yet spotty collection of vintage looking distressed t-shirts with college logos on them. The included schools at this point are Arkansas, Arizona, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Virginia, and Yale.

Though Iowa probably lives up to this motto, these shirts are actually made for a large number of schools. So I decided to search around a little and figure out the most ridiculous school that prints this shirt. I feel confident that I have found the winner.
