Tailgating Chronicles: Auburn Amphitheatre
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 Posted in tailgating chronicles | No Comments »The following Auburn tailgate was submitted to us by reader Ben Bone:
We have been tailgating in the amphitheater area for a very long time as well. I have met some of the best people in my life in and around Auburn games in the fall. We have a kick ass time every week there is a game. We have a decent set up that centers around a custom made grill trailer. It was made and designed by my good friend Layne Hudson. Here are some of the details:
Made from a 1972 K5 Blazer frame
Grill itself is 5 feet in diameter and was a old dairy kettle.
The rear coolers were a old salad bar.
It has a smoker box, keg with water —>sink, propane burner, stainless cup holders, cutting board and lots of storage up top.
New additions include ipod boat radio, bazzoka 10″ 200 watt subwoofer and 2 8″ bazzoka wakeboard speakers.
Neon light tube underneath that can strobe, flash or blink to the bass
Flag holders on top
Directv mount, new wheels and tires (match my truck BFG AT’s)Our tailgate also has a port-a-cool, 20×20 tent, 32″ lcd tv, directv, chairs, tables, lots of food…
I’m not huge on amplification at a tailgate, but the dairy kettle grill, wings, and location on campus are ideal.

Do you also have a great tailgate? Send us photos and descriptions
Collegiate Snuggies are Coming and they are Hideous

Oh the horror. So they finally get around to releasing Snuggies with college logos on them, which theoretically should be a huge success. But they took an “article of clothing” that any normal person would be timid about wearing in public, and made it more ghastly. Did they just hire the same designers who create the college hats and t-shirts that you find at gas stations and Wal Mart? There appear to be at least 4 different logos on each of those. Why wouldn’t you just put one gigantic logo on it? People already make blankets like this, all you had to do was add sleeves. But I guess it’s not all bad news. For those of you out there that already have shirts like this to wear in September you now have a way to keep warm in November without sacrificing your trademark style.

Tailgating Chronicles: Auburn Brew Club
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 Posted in drinking, tailgating chronicles | 1 Comment »Before last Saturday’s Auburn/LaMonroe game I had the pleasure of discovering the Auburn Brew Club’s tailgate. When someone pulls a wheelbarrow by you with a cooler sporting 6 beer taps, it catches your eye. The Brew Club is a group of home beer brewers in the Auburn, AL area. They meet once a month to discuss brewing tips and sample homemade brews. The group I talked to seemed to consist of several current engineering students. Which would come in handy with their elaborate tailgating setup.
Though it’s available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, their double awning tent is the first one I’ve seen of it’s kind. We were so impressed we went out and bought one on sale for $200. I’ll have a review next week.
The focal point is obviously the the six tap cooler. I think I’ve had dreams about this before.
A second cooler contains the soda kegs (a.k.a. Cornelius or Corney keg) of home brewed beer. The tubes lead to the main cooler which also contains some sort of device that cools the beer quickly.
The menu is pictured below. If I remember correctly the Saison was a Belgian White Ale that was delicious. The guys were very happy to explain the process to us and even better they offered us all the beer we wanted.
Tailgating Rules: Keg Stands
Friday, August 8th, 2008 Posted in drinking, rules of tailgating | No Comments »If the Drunken Tailgater performs a keg stand, they shall not put forth a time under 30 seconds. Anything less is an embarrassment to yourself, your school, and your tailgate.
I love several things about this photo. First, the heart warming unity of Auburn and LSU fans working together in the spirit of the tailgate. It’s been a fiercely contested battle the last few years on the field, but there was a moment of cooperation off the field. The careful planning of the Auburn tailgater to tuck his spirit shaker into his belt. The little kid in the yellow shirt watching in amazement. And the spout holders’ combo of a gameday shirt and the camo LSU hat. Well done team.
