tailgating chronicles

Taylor Takes a Taste continued on his college campus tour in Blacksburg, Virginia to check out some Hokie tailgating. I have to agree that this is a well done tailgating shirt.

Dancing Arizona State Tailgate

I’m sure for a lot people the obvious appeal of this video will be the dancing 50 year old drunk guy. He’s obviously someone who has spent way too much time in dance clubs over the last 10 years and has managed to pick up a few moves. What I find more compelling is the tailgating attire of the Arizona State female tailgating contingent. You got the one girl in the bikini top among a throng of tube tops, shirt dresses, jean shorts, and the like. The original post where I found this also has a LSU tailgating video. The two student populations seem to have a fair amount of similarities.

Amazingly, someone has uploaded the same event to Youtube from a different angle

The Hokie Tailgater

Three different sites offered recaps of the tailgating experience for the Auburn vs. Clemson game last week. Let’s start with holyturf.com:

No matter where you tailgate in Auburn, you are bound to have a good time- but I’d have to say that the Ampitheatre is the best place to be on a game day afternoon. The Ampitheatre is located between The Hill (dorms) and the baseball field and parking garage next to the stadium. The Ampitheatre is know for being the “place to be” on game days, so even the Auburn marching band comes out to play the fight song in the middle of the day

Auburn John from the SCF Poll had this to add

We were in Auburn this weekend for a full day of tailgating before the Clemson game. This is the first season in which I am married, which was evident because 1) I was warned against consuming too many adult beverages; 2) I was informed of wearing too little sunscreen; and 3) I kept being referred to as ‘husband.’

Friends of the Program has a photo essay with lots of coverage of the ESPN College Gameday crowd. Including photos of someone dressed up like Chewbacca in the sweltering 90° heat and Erin Andrews wearing her painted on pants.

A Cane’s Tailgating Trip to The Shoe

Canes Pundit has a lengthy and viciously funny recap of his trip to Ohio State for the Miami game last weekend. Excerpts:

We head to the Enterprise counter to pick up our rental car. The dude behind the counter takes one look at our shirts and says, “You guys ready to lose today?” Hey funny man, just get us our car. Then, he gets on the phone with the lot in the back and loudly says, “Hey Crissy, do you have any pink Beetles back there for these guys?” A few Buckeye fans in line snicker and laugh. I’m like, “Listen dude, why don’t you see if Crissy can also round up a career path advisor back there so you’re not the f’n front desk jockey at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Dayton, Ohio.”

It really doesn’t matter what school it is. The people with the worst jobs talk the most crap. Wal Mart cashiers, waiters, mechanics, etc.

One thing I will say is that the campus (like its inhabitants) is f’n HUGE (and nice too…see I’ll toss in a compliment every once in a while). So we park in a lot and then head to the 7-11 for a beer run. As we’re walking, we’re amazed at the set ups. Those Buckeye fans don’t F around when it comes to tailgating. They start early, and do it up like it’s the most exciting weekend of the year (cuz it, of course, is). One group had the typical flat screens with HD hooked up but even brought in two f’n LaZBoy recliners.
